| A BRIEF INTRODUCTION TO CRSA AND
AMATEUR RADIO IN THE MAINLAND OF CHINA
Chinese Radio Sports Association (CRSA) is the national society representing radio amateurs in China. The major mission of CRSA is to populize amateur radio among Chinese people. CRSA was founded in 3 April, 1964, and become a member of International Amateur Radio Union (IARU) representing China in 1984.
The early activities of CRSA was more fevorated in radio sports, mainly high speed telegraphy (HST) and amateur radio direction finding (ARDF).
With the assistances from overseas radio amateurs, CRSA helped schools and youth centers in establish club amateur radio stations since 1980, and trained thouthands kits in basic radio operations.
CRSA's individual membership was started from 1993, after the ban of home stations was lifted at the end of 1992.
Since then, CRSA helped both new comers and radio administrations in licensing and is committed in charge of conducting the qualification for amateur radio operating cirtificates. CRSA also organizes various national amateur radio events to attract and encourage more young people to take part in amateur radio. The Amateur Radio Emergency Service in-field training has become more popular among CRSA members, especially in local bases.
CRSA has successfully boosted the total population of amateur radio stations in the mainland by more than 50% during the past year. The continuous increasing is also expected for the near future. The total member population is about 20,000 now. A quarterly publication named "Ham's CQ" is available to members.
